Well I may touch a nerve and I hope I do but here it goes.....
As I was leaving station 1 this morning after a busy but good shift, I noticed all of the canidates coming to take the test. Everyone look nervous but they were all excited. Most were Volunteers somewhere and a few were coming from other (Larger) career departments. Well my point is they want to have the same job I have. As I was driving home I found myself wanting to be downtown today to see them all take the test, but I could not stay. I am excited that we are getting ready to hire and promote. All I hope is that whoever gets promoted and hired is that they love the job and they do the very best they can (and I don't see any problem with that). NOW my point, I have been lucky enough to work on every shift and this week I worked overtime on "B" shift and they have some hardworking and great guys.....but just as on ALL shifts we have some people that try to find the easy way out....in other word some people are a little lazy correction some people are VERY LAZY! Now this is my opinon and mine alone! First of all, I no we all can be lazy but somethings I witnessed over the past couple of weeks are uncalled for. I will not say names but you know who you are. All I have to say is I worked with guy yesterday and yes, he is a friend but more so he is a BROTHER. This person had been up all night sick he was very week BUT he still worked his BUTT OFF yesterday and I did not hear him complain NOT ONCE. You could tell that he did not feel well but there he was still working and working hard. This person is stronger on a bad day then most of us on a great day! We have a great department and great people......so all I want to say is the few people (and you know who you are) Shape up or get out so we can replace you with someone who will love the job and work hard! This means take a class, Teach a drill something get involved but just DO SOMETHING!
Good luck to the LT's taking the Captains test ....... and to the folks taking the test to get hired.

A Sullivan County Deputy was struck by a truck I-81 tonight here is the story from Bristol news .com
BY DANIEL TAYLOR BRISTOL HERALD COURIER BLOUNTVILLE Police said he shoved a woman out of harm’s way just before he was hit. Deputy Robert Bowlin was taken by ambulance at around 7:30 p.m. to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. He was in stable condition at press time. Bowlin was struck while outside his cruiser, standing on the edge of the highway next to a car that had been in a rear-end collision near Exit 66, said Trooper Noah Click of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Driver Staci Reeves, 20, of Blountville had rear-ended a Jeep driven by 67-year-old James Bentley, also of Blountville, Click said. No one was hurt in that wreck. Traffic was passing the wreck in the right lane, but a man driving a pickup towing a trailer apparently couldn’t move to the right and tried to pass on the left, where the deputy was standing, the trooper said. Bowlin was helping Reeves out of the car when he saw the truck coming at him, said sheriff’s Detective B.J. Richardson. He shoved Reeves into the median and out of the way.
C-Shift responded to a fire alarm at V I College. A certain squirrel failed to properly suit up for this call. This has caused some concern among fellow co-workers because of the safety issue. We as fellow workers are concerned for the safety of our friend GK-7 who is better known as:
Super Squirrel Scottie Sproles
If you have comments in reference to this issue, please go to the following web site and post them for all fellow firefighters sake.
