House Fire on Moore St!

Again last night Q1 E2 E3 and Response 1 were dispached to another working fire! On arrival we found heavy Smoke and Fire Conditions! Quint staff made an aggressive knockdown which saved the house! We were hampered due to very cold temps but we got the job done! I will post more also later and when I get Pics (which were taken after the fire!) Anyway have a great weekend also watch www.vafirenews.com for more info on the fire!

This is my first time writing on this blog but I think it can reach everyone quicker than waiting to see them in person.

Everyone had to work hard and quick to make the stop on this one, and I feel that just what we did. Is there anything I would like to have done differently? Sure there are, but is that not the case with most fires? I guess that is why it is said "hind sight is 20-20". I look forward to the critique and hearing from those that had a different view of the incident than I did.

It has been said to me that perhaps we should not have been inside. I say, thats what the city pays me to do, and this is what I agreed to when I accepted the job.

Anyway, thats my opinion and if you disagree thats OK.

Stay Safe..
Earl

It does'nt matter what others think!

Our officers are there to make decisions, and the decision made to "Go In" on the fire was in my eyes was the correct one! Even though this structure had MAJOR damage, we still salvaged things from this fire that would not have been salvaged if it was a parking lot! Example Pictures!

I think that the First due officers made the correct decision to go and get this fire and even though we had to work a little harder, it is worth it and we owe it to our citizens!

No matter what we are public servants! Always remember that!

so Great Job Guys!!!.... And "A" shift thanks for the clean up!!!! I am sure we will repay the favor some day!!!!

GO TEAM!!!!!!

Hey guys, I just wanted to say that as one of the A-shift overhaul and clean-up guys you all did a great job with this one. That was a lot of fire on multiple floors and the attic space. Great job! Oh and Shawn, I can't wait to return the favor to you. Engine 3's crew earned our money that day, (Moore St., Car vs. House, Brush fire, 3 car accident on I-81, Shoney's kitchen fire, and an EMS call). Stay safe and everyone take care.

If you had used a fog nozzle on that one, it would have pushed fire farther into the structure than it did, and should there had been any victim's they would have been steamed. Good Job!

There is a place for fog, and a place for smooth bore. I think the command officers made the right choice. Great Job!!!

Hind Sight 20/20 is all that arm chair quarterbacks are good for,if the shoe fits, put the darn thang' on, other than that, I wouldn't want nobody else besides you frontline guys and supervisors fighting my house if it was to god forbid catch fire. You know your job, and you do it well!

p.s. I don't work with you, but I admire the hell out of you! Keep up the good work BVFD!!!

These guys would have been in a world of crap if this fire would have happened when Station 2 was closed due to manpower shortage. I would hate for that to be on my shoulders ! This puts our community and our FFs in grave danger !

You are correct. I know Enigine 2 arrived as quiclky as they could, but when you are the one waiting one minute feels like 20. Probably the best Engine 3 can do to make it downtown is around 7-8 minutes. That can feel like an eternity.

Hopefully our City Leaders will correct this dangerous situation ! I understand budget resraints, but when you put Bristols citizens and FFs lives in jeopardy by closing a station, thats extreamly dangerous ! God Bless !

Ego? It is nothing about ego, it is about taking away the tools(weapons) that the ff use to battle the fire. People have went to schools and brought the sb back with a hope to add this to our tool box, and the chief seemed to have bought the idea because he allowed them to be placed on the truck. This wasnt based on reading a book but actual application. Put a bare hand up in a room you just opened a fog in, then compare that to a bare hand after a sb has open up. Btw i am not saying your tatics come from just reading a book, I am saying that this was brought to the department with practical skills that were used in a training evolution. I think your guys think you are the best capt this department has just dont take what few tools they have away.

It is my understanding that this was a verbal order. Nothing written. So if you were not present when this directive was given, how can you be held accountible?
